The Benefits of Mindfulness

What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is often described as the process of becoming aware of the present moment.

Mindfulness is often described as the process of becoming aware of the present moment. However, this description may seem vague, unfamiliar, and sometimes intimidating. Especially for those of us who have lived through overwhelming life experiences, or if we haven’t had the opportunity to engage with this kind of practice.

In reality, mindfulness is a kind and welcoming practice.

It welcomes us to get curious about our thoughts, feelings, sensations, and inner experiences in the here and now, without judgement.

What Are The Benefits of Mindfulness?

In our educational video, Mindfulness, our Associates expand on how mindfulness has both physical and psychological benefits. Physically, this practice can help reduce blood pressure, stress levels, and improve the functioning of our immune systems.

When we are feeling emotionally overwhelmed, by becoming more aware of our thoughts, feelings, and inner experiences, mindfulness can support us with regulating our emotions. This further improves our self-awareness as well as our ability to self-moderate emotional distress.

What Can Mindfulness Look Like?

Mindfulness doesn’t require silence, long periods of meditation,
or a perfectly calm mind.

It can live in ordinary moments. Whether that’s the feeling of your feet on the floor, the warmth of a mug in your hands, or noticing the steady rhythm of your breath as you pause between tasks. These small moments of awareness are often where mindfulness begins, and where it feels most accessible.

We hope this invitation to engage with mindfulness offers you an opportunity to soften. To listen inward. To allow yourself moments of presence without expectation, judgement, or perfection.

Many psychotherapists now incorporate mindfulness into their practice, so if this approach appeals to you, make sure to ask your therapist about it and how you can draw on mindfulness to deepen your healing journey.
