An Open House for South Asian Health Providers

You’re warmly invited to join Redbird Therapy Centre for a special afternoon dedicated to South Asian wellness providers and community organization leaders. We believe that collaboration strengthens care. This open house is a space to meet, connect, and explore how we can support each other in our work.

We welcome South Asian psychotherapists, psychologists, physicians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, registered massage therapists, dietitians, nutritionists, chiropractors, community organization leaders, cultural or religious organizational representatives, and faith leaders.

Cost: FREE

This networking event will be held in person on October 19, 2026 – 6:30 to 8:00 pm EST

The Medicine of Art

Are Redbird continues its culturally grounded partnership with the Native Women’s Resource Centre of Toronto, offering biweekly, trauma-informed Expressive Arts groups for Indigenous women. Facilitated by trained Expressive Arts and Art Therapists, the group uses familiar and meaningful creative practices to support self-expression, reflection, and belonging. Through the arts, participants explore their experiences, strengthen their sense of well-being, and foster connection within community.

Healing in Context: Rangotsav

Healing in Context: Rangotsav is the finale of our workshop series – a vibrant in-person celebration of South Asian culture, community, and healing. Through live performances, poetry, and storytelling, Rangotsav (meaning “festival of colour”) will highlight voices and creative expression of artists from the South Asian diaspora. Whether you’ve attended the workshop series or are here for the first time, join us for an evening of reflection, connection, and joy as we celebrate healing in all its forms.

Nourishing the Mind: Cultural Diets and Mental Health in South Asian Immigrant Life

Aaron D’Silva, Nutritionist, MSc. NANS, BSc.

This seminar explores how cultural identity shapes eating habits among South Asian immigrants in North America. We will explore how dietary patterns and food choices have evolved post-immigration. We will also examine how these changes affect mental health, particularly within the context of Western lifestyle pressures, acculturation, and community norms.

Navigating Complexity: Understanding Stigma, Risk, and The Need for Culturally Responsive Care

Redbird South Asian Services Team

This workshop delves into specific barriers that South Asian clients may face when accessing health and mental health services. The impact of stigma, systemic racism, gender-based differences, intergenerational conflict, and culturally shaped expressions of distress will be explored. A special emphasis will be placed on understanding high-risk concerns such as suicidality, and substance use, while offering strategies for culturally safe intervention and service navigation.

Seeing the Unseen: Culture, History, and Identity in the South Asian Diaspora

This foundational workshop introduces Allied Health Professionals to the diverse cultural and historical contexts that shape the South Asian diasporic experience. We will explore the migration journeys, cultural values, family structures, language diversity, and the hyphenated nature of diasporic identities. Through narrative storytelling and educational anecdotes, participants will explore the need to develop a culturally responsive lens as well as reflect on implicit bias, intersectionality, and cultural humility.

Beyond Allyship: Privilege and what to do with and about it

Dr. Ed Connors, Indigenous Psychologist & Stephanie Nixon, PhD, Vice-Dean (Health Sciences) and Director (School of Rehab Therapy), Queen’s University

This welcoming, interactive workshop introduces the “Coin Model” as a way to get our heads and hearts around the concept of privilege. We will focus on the question of “what is my work to do?” when it comes to the social justice and building a more peaceful world. This workshop leads with kindness, and offers the opportunity to collectively hone our critical consciousness. It is designed for folks at all stages of their justice journeys from brand new (welcome!) to those with long histories of anti-oppressive practice.
